Take a Flight of Fantasy

The annual fantasy show for 2012 will have the theme Flight. Take a new look at the concept and see where your imagination leads you by the end of October. The fantasy show is open to all artists 18 years of age and older and has the following requirements:
  • Artwork cannot exceed 48 inches in any direction.
  • Sculpture cannot exceed 200 pounds.
  • Frames and canvases must be appropriately wired to hang.
  • All media is accepted, but no classroom exercises.
  • The entry fee for each piece is $10 with a maximum of three pieces per artist.
The opening reception will be from 5 to 7 PM Friday, Nov. 9, in the Gallery. Entries will be judged, and the following prizes will be awarded at the reception: $100 First Place, $75 Second Place, $50 Third Place, and a ribbon for Honorable Mention.

Summer Classes for Kids, Teens and Adults

The following classes begin this month at the Seguin Oakwood Art League Gallery, 109 N. River St.—

  • This and That for Kids 8 years and older
  • Digital DSLR Photography
  • Life Drawing with a live model

This and That is taught by retired educators Roger Betschler and Donna Maske and will include building techniques with clay, color theory, design principles, drawing, painting, and glazing. Costs are $15 for supplies and $30 for three 2-hour lessons on Wednesdays, June 13, 20, and 27, either 9-11 AM or 1-3 PM.

The first Life Drawing class is Tuesday, June 19, 6-8 PM, and is open to teenagers and adults. Cost is $5 per class for the model. Participants will bring their own drawing supplies and practice sketches of several quick poses and then a longer pose.

The DSLR Photography class for age 15 and older will be taught by UT journalism graduate Abigail Barrientez on five Saturdays, June 16-July 14, 10 AM-12 noon. Cost is $100; bring your own DSLR camera, a pen and pad, and two favorite 5x7 prints. Students will review basic photography, learn camera-setting skills in various situations, and complete weekly assignments to practice the new procedures.
