Call to Artists: How I See It


We are currently accepting entries into the annual "How I See It" photography show! Open to artists 18 and over, the show accepts photographs from 2012 or newer. We have a variety of categories and awards, so be sure to get your work in for a chance to be shown and win! All the details are below.

RULES:
1. Limit of two (2) photographs dating from 2012 or newer. Work must not have been entered in a previous SAL show.
3. Outside frame dimensions may not exceed 36” x 48”
3. All work must be ready to hang; wire is preferred.
4. Insurance is the responsibility of the artist. Artwork will be handled with all possible care.
5. Seguin Art League commission policy: 25% on any work sold during the show.
6. Artwork must be available to be on display through the duration of the show.

CATEGORIES & AWARDS:
Each photograph submitted must fall into one of the following categories: 
1.) City- / Sea- / Landscapes
2.) Animals & Wildlife 
3.) Plants & Insects 
4.) People & Portraits 
5.) Artistic/Conceptual
Each category will have a First Place ($100 prize) and up to 2 Honorable Mentions

Members: $10.00 per entry.
Non Members: $15.00 per entry.

Rotary Club Donates to Raise the Roof!



The Seguin Rotary Club has awarded the Seguin Art League with a $1500 donation to help the Raise the Roof project, further funding the restoration of the Mandell Building as the permanent residence of the Seguin Art League. Rotary President Ryan Khun is pictured above with SAL Board member Debbie Zengerle and Robin Roberts Walker, SAL President. One step closer!

SUMMER ART CAMP: Super Heroes!


August Art Camp - Super Heroes
Ages 10 and Older. Class Limit 10.

This Art Camp will teach a variety of media and techniques. Day one will teach proportion of the face and hand building using the slab technique to create a Super Hero clay mask. Day two will complete the 3-D form and teach proportion of the human body and create the action figure. Day three will be watercolor techniques and painting the action figure. Day four will be an introduction to oil pastels to add color to the clay work and creating a comic book page.

Winners Announced! SUMMERFEST












The Seguin Art League announced the winners of their exhibition, SUMMERFEST now showing at the GRMC SELIG ROOM. The all-media exhibit was a juried event and was judged by the Curator for the Gallery of the Common Experience at Texas State University, Billi London-Gray. Winners include two Honorable Mention awards, Liz Romero for “Prickly Pear#3” and Mike Bednarski for “Reunion”. The 3rd place award went to Lisa McPike Smith for “Sirena”, 2nd place was awarded to Howard Crunk for “Kinsasha Boy” and the 1st place award was awarded to Denise Beard for her pastel entitled “A Hard Life”.















The 58 works will remain on exhibit through August 8 and can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. GRMC (Guadalupe Regional Medical Center) is located at 1215 E. Yulefest 2015 is Around the Corner!


The 2015 Yulefest Arts and Crafts Show will be here before we know it! Applications for vendors are due in by November 1st. Below is all the information and the link for the sign-up form. It's sure to be a great event, we hope to see you there!

DATE: Sunday, December 6, 2015
TIME: 10am - 4pm
LOCATION: Seguin-Guadalupe County Coliseum, 950 S Austin St., Seguin TX

This show features ONLY hand-made and hand-embellished items.
These guidelines will be strictly enforced.

BOOTH INFO:
- $70 for a 10x10 ft booth space (all indoor)
- Set-up is from 8am - 10am. Loading docks available. Parking is free.
- Booth spaces are held until 9am and then available for stand-by exhibitors
- Refunds for cancellation must be made my November 1st.
- Booth assignments will be made on or near November 15th.

RETURNING VENDORS:
For returning vendors, make sure to submit your application before Nov 1st if you would like to request the same booth location as last year - this will be first come-first served.

NEW VENDORS:
All new vendors must provide photos of their hand-made items along with their application. The Art League will notify you of your acceptance into the show.

***ALL vendors are asked to donate one item for prize drawings held throughout the day.***

Call to Artists: Summerfest 2015

With summer upon us, it's time again for our annual Summerfest juried art show and we're calling artists to help make this the best one yet! The show is open to all artists age 18 and over and includes all forms of media except for jewelry (for security reasons).

Criteria for Entries:
- All submissions must be delivered in-person.
- Two-dimensional artwork must be ready to hang by wire or hook.
- Outside dimensions cannot exceed 48” in any direction.
- Artwork must not have previously been exhibited in a Seguin Art League show.
- Insurance coverage is the artists’ responsibility. All artwork will be handled with all possible care.
- Artwork must be for sale. Seguin Art League commission policy: 25% on all artwork sold.

June Art Camp!

Roger Betschler and Donna Maske will be instructing a great art camp this June - open to anyone ten years old or older. Don't miss your spot, we have only ten available!

This Art Camp will teach techniques working in both two and three-dimensional art forms. Day one will cover hand-building using the slab technique to create a cultural mask of clay. Day two will complete the 3-D form and introduce drawing skills. Day three will be a continuation of drawing skills (bird and human anatomy). Day four will be an introduction to oil pastels to add color to the clay work.

Call for Entries - 6th Annual High School Art Show


We're now taking entries now for the 6th Annual High School Art Show!

Open to students in grades 9-12.

1. All media accepted. Maximum of 2 artworks per student.
2. Artwork must be ready for display. 2-D pieces must be ready to hang (wired frames/canvases)
3. Artwork dimensions cannot exceed 36” in any direction
4. Artwork will be handled with all possible care. The Art League is not responsible for damage.

AWARDS ***Artist or parent must be present at the reception to receive cash award ***
First Place - $100.00
Second Place - $75.00
Third Place - $50.00
Honorable Mention - $20.00

Arts Video Contest

Arts Video Contest
SEGUIN, Texas –Do you have a favorite Seguin artist or art venue? The Seguin Commission on the Arts wants to hear about it through video. The Commission will be accepting 1 to 3 minute videos discussing why the artist or venue is your favorite. Consider interviewing your favorite artist or share their story, or why you find a piece of art interesting.

Seguin has a vibrant arts community and the Commission is looking to share the Seguin art scene with the community and the world.  
“We are excited to see the talent that is in Seguin and to be able to share that talent with the world,” said Commission Chairwoman Dr. Ana Maria Gonzalez, “This is a great opportunity for either the novice film maker or an experienced videographer.”
The videos will be judged on content, quality, and message.  The top three videos will receive an award, starting with a $300 prize for first place.

Commission on the Arts Nominations

One of the goals of the Seguin Commission on the Arts is to provide recognition of groups, organizations and individuals that enrich life in Seguin by bringing cultural and artistic values, events, and artifacts to the city.

They are inviting Seguinites to nominate a group, organization or individual of Seguin that fulfills this goal for the benefit of the community.

Please submit a nomination with the following information:

  1. Name of group, organization or individual.
  2. A comprehensive description of:
  1. Presence / impact in the community (age population, number of participants, etc)
  2. Activities in 2014
  3. Specific contributions
